Mosquitoes: Protecting Our Companions

As soon as the nice weather arrives🌞, mosquitoes make their grand return along with their share of nuisances.

🦟 Heat and humidity are their best allies: their population can explode in just a few days. MOSQUITOES!

Good news: with the right habits, you can act at every stage — before they appear, to keep them at bay, and to get rid of them effectively.

🌿 Step 1 — Prevent: act at the source

Mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water. A female can lay up to 200 eggs every 3 to 4 days: the larvae hatch in a few days and become adults very quickly depending on the temperature. Needless to say, the proliferation can be rapid 🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟🦟!

To limit their appearance:

• 🪣 Regularly empty the saucers under flower pots
• 🍃 Clean your gutters (stagnant water easily accumulates there)
• 💧 Treat ponds and water points with a larvicide product without insecticide — effective for up to 4 weeks, with no impact on aquatic wildlife
• 🏠 Check indoor damp areas: basement, crawl space, shed…

🌬️ Step 2 — Repel: keep mosquitoes at a distance

Despite prevention, a few mosquitoes still show up? Here’s how to keep them away:

• 🔥 Light a brazier, burn incense, or light candles in the garden in the evening (be sure to NEVER leave a fire unattended and ALWAYS have a water source nearby to help extinguish it 😉 Yes, it may seem silly to you, but after experiencing fires, you tend to be a bit paranoid 😇😇)
• 💨 Set up a fan: mosquitoes fly poorly in the wind
• 🔌 Use an ultrasonic repellent — plug it into an outlet, it covers up to 30 m² and works both indoors and under a canopy
• 🧴 Apply a suitable repellent product on exposed areas
