Why does a dog eat its poop?

• 1️⃣ Learned behavior

Coprophagia is more common in puppies than in adults.
Puppies may have adopted the behavior from their mother (who eats the poop to keep the litter clean), or simply out of natural curiosity.
In adult dogs, this behavior often serves to get the owner's attention, even punishment is perceived as attention.

• 2️⃣ Nutrient deficiency

An unbalanced diet or digestive disorders can push a dog to eat its poop to compensate.
